" The results are impressive and carry a sense of the ecstasy inspired by the very best Pärt performances ... A highly recommended entry in the Pärt catalog".

"On paper this disc isn't an easy sell: it's an hour of a cappella choral music, mostly revolving around a fairly repetitious pattern without much variety or deviation, revolving around themes of penitence and repentance. Yet I found it utterly spellbinding and entirely compelling ... The performance, too, is very good ... So unless you're totally allergic to Pärt's minimalist style, I think this is a disc that will repay exploration".

"This excellent recording of Arvo Pärt's Kanon Pokajanen shows exactly why his often slow-moving, stylistically austere music has developed such a strong, devoted audience ... I find the Amsterdam recording preferable: it has more detailed inflections, cleaner ensemble, and a less resonant acoustic, enhancing the feeling of intimacy and self-communing which makes Kanon Pokajanen such an absorbing listening experience".

"Die Cappella Amsterdam bietet in puncto Intonationsreinheit, hellhöriger Artikulation und Klangvolumen freilich Optimales. Eine Aufnahme, mit der man sich gerne erneut auseinanderzusetzen gewillt ist. Am liebsten im stillen Kämmerlein".

"In striving to get to the essence of the words, Pärt has created 'a precious island in the inner seclusion of our soul', and Cappella Amsterdam under Daniel Reuss more than do justice to Kanon Pokajanen's distilled purity and sublime beauty".
