"The veteran Latvian composer Pēteris Vasks is particularly fond of writing for strings, and here we have four of his works for string orchestra ... The Munich Radio Orchestra are experienced with Vasks' music, having already made one recording of it. Cello soloists, Uladzimir Sinkevich is from Belarus and is the orchestra's principal cellist. He is a fine player. Anna-Maria Palii is a member of the Baravian Radio Chorus and also has a solo operatic career. She handles her short part well. The conductor, Ivan Repušić, is from Croatia and has been the chief conductor of the orchestra since 2017. He secures excellent results. These performances are assured, lyrical and idiomatic ... There are other recordings of all these works, but not grouped together. This is a very worthwhile recording".

"Three of Vasks's cycle of four 'musicae' for string orchestra are given radiant performances ... The forces are joined by soloist Uladzimir Sinkevich for an equally penetrating Cello Conerto no. 2 ... Each work has a different emotional impetus but all flow with an immediate, searing lyricism from Vasks's long-established combination of stark anguish and ethereal yearning".

"Die drei Streicherkompositionen ... entfalten die Seelenräume, in denen die Musik von Peteris Vasks spielt, auf eine geradezu idealtypische Weise. Sie erfahren hier intensive und expressive Lesarten".

"Spatially recorded Vasks from the Munich Radio Orchestra has a particular quality ... That this instalment doesn't quite match its predecessor is down to the music, not the performance ... Whatever the level of the music, these Bavarians and their recording engineers have found a resonant sound style for Vasks's music, which is surely his biggest interpretative challenge".
