If the music never quite achieves the power and majesty of Reich's Music for 18 Musicians, it has something of that great work's certainty and inevitability, which is more than enough".

"Steve Reich's music is often compared with the visual paintings and sculptures of like-minded artists ... Reich/Richter is different insofar as it shows the American composer applying the same method that painter Gerhard Richter created for his 2016 'Patterns' exhibition ... So he contacted Reich to ask whether he might compose a piece that could be played alongside a video installation of these patterns ... The live performance by Ensemble Intercontemporain under George Jackson in Paris in March 2020 is particularly effective at balancing each individual line in relation to the overall musical result ...
