Modern horn trios

"Ligeti's Horn Trio (1982) is one of the most powerful musical memorials to a troubled time ... The astonishing balance Ligeti achieved between discipline and despair still strikes home with unsparing force, persisting in mind long after the stunned descent into silence at the end has run its course ... This new release does not attempt to reproduce ... a recording made in the 1990s under the composer's supervision ... and although the chosen sequence of other 20th-century works for horn trio rather underlines Ligeti's supremacy in this unusual medium, there are several interesting novelties to be heard".
