"This double album spotlighting the art of renowned flautist Emmanuel Pahud comprises works featuring the flute as a solo instrument ... Pahud has here gathered together nine works, all Parisian in origin. They represent different golden ages of the flute' and span a period of around two hundred and forty years: the oldest, featuring on the second CD, are a pair of works written by Mozart during a stay in Paris in 1778 ... Almost certainly the greatest flute player of his generation, with this collection Emmanuel Pahud has achieved some of his finest work. With ideal levels of expression and virtuosity, Pahud produces a beautiful tone from his Haynes all-14K-gold, pinless flute. Deserving of praise, too, are Pahud's wind partners for attaining first-rate ensemble".

"Pahud's crisply articulated, rigourously controlled playing is the perfect match for these French flute works, some of the most revered in the instrument's repertoire. The only lesser-known offering is 'Dreamtime' by Philippe Hersant, a stellar example of contemporary writing".

"Editor's choice: This is a double-disc, multicomposer tribute to the notion of Paris as 'flute capital of the world' from the 18th century to the present day ... When it comes to sounding immediately, inescapably French, these flute works have the edge right from the programme's opening seconds and the further gold stamp is the presence of François Leleux at the helm of the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, with everything his oboist's perspective can bring Those aforementioned first few seconds, courtesy of Philippe Hersant's Dreamtime ... are some of the most instantly beguiling and exciting bars of music I've heard open a disc in some time ... Disc 2 is entirely devoted to Mozart's 1778 Paris visit, and shines with yet more elegant and lucid orchestral playing ... plus the dream team joining Pahud for the 'Symphonie concertante' ... Not to be missed".
