Niels Viggo Bentzon plays Bentzon, Scriabin a.o.

"During the hot Danish summer of 1986 Danacord recorded Niels Viggo Bentzon in sessions at a Copenhagen high school. The result was an LP that captured the executant-composer in fine fettle performing two of his own piano sonatas as well as Scriabin's Ninth. In fact, he also recorded the Busoni Sonatina and Petrassi's Invenzioni but there wasn't room on the LP for them; here they are now, released for the first time ... Bentzon gives us full percussive urgency in the Fifth Sonata ... The Partita ... This compelling, lively and dramatic work - note the bold chordal flourishes in the finale - really comes alive in the composer's hands. So too does the Third Sonata ... a sweepingly virtuosic, post-Lisztian affair with a brief funereal Largo ... Jesper Buhl's booklet notes set the historic scene perfectly and form part of a notably successful restoration".

"I Niels Viggo Bentzons potentielle 100-år 2019 udkom en dobbelt-cd med pianisten på Danacord i en forfriskende teknisk modernisering ... På dobbeltsættet får man indspilningen tilbage fra 1945 af klaverværket "Partita" og fra 1947 af "Træsnit", som i en forfriskende teknisk modernisering klinger, hvad titlen nærmest lover af fint udskårne nuancer. De seneste indspilninger er fra 1983 af klaversonaterne nr. 18 og 19. Vi har jo med en flittig komponist at gøre. Vi hører også Paul Tofte Hansens dejlige engelsk horn i sonaten for Cor anglais og piano ... Det er interessant at høre Bentzon spille anden musik, som han brændte for, som Ferruccio Busonis sonatine "In diem naviatatis Christi", som sikkert vil glæde nedlemmerne af Busoni Selskabet herhjemme".
