"Bahari is an enthralling storyteller, investing every phrase with musical intention. The opening Allegro moderato is a silvery toned tour de force supported by Rouvali and the Gothenburgers' gossamer textures, yet there is plenty of heft and a suitable darkness to the collective sound when required (...) Lemminkäinen and the Maidens of the Island is packed with lusty incident, rising to a series of sensual climaxes ".

"Bahari's dark, very slightly wiry tone is ideal for setting the requisite mood of yearning but she also soars sweetly, as if in supplication, and when the orchestra launches into the angry second theme, she finds real bite and snap for the developmental cadenza - and her intonation is superb. Rouvali's accompaniment is discreet without being bland; most of the time he gives his soloist the spotlight ...".

"Hugely impressed by Ava Bahari here. She is truly a storyteller. There is untold generosity and cleanness to the playing and the best way I can express what sets apart her reading of this oft-performed piece is the value with which she imbues every note, be it part of a singing phrase or a driving rush of pyrotechnics. Nothing is `incidental', every note has a purpose".
